Earth Bin 2021

The Quay, Wexford Town April 24th, 2021
It all began with a chat with Phil, a woman that I previously
contacted through Wexford Tidy Towns, where I explained my
work titled “Earth Bin”. The reason I contacted the group was
because I was seeking suggestions or an eventual collaboration of
some kind; as my intention of placing the sculpture in a public
area was sure, I only expected from them tips in regards to the
locations and ways to approach people.
Saturday 24th 2021, at 11:00 am after setting up the sculpture,
people began to approach the piece and to throw a piece of trash inside the sculpture.
For two hours people kept filling ‘Earth Bin’; some people were
smiling, some people were reflecting, and others just passed it by.
But what struck me the most that day, was how children curiously
approached and interacted with the sculpture, often coming back
to repeat the experience; who knew that, throwing away a piece of
garbage, which should be a normal act, would have provoked such
reactions. At 2:30 pm the sculpture was completed.
Watch the people that took part of the experience, helping me completing the installation:
Earth Bin is an invitation to reflect on our habits and
behaviours, and how our action can influence, positively or negatively the world around us.
